Graduation!

Top right and above photo credit: Samuel Mills Photography.

This last week has involved lots of travelling and adventuring as I was up North in Preston for mine and Sam's graduation ceremonies. It was great fun running around in the gown and heels, very happy to say that I did not trip... It was a very surreal experience and I am incredibly happy that my family and Sam were able to be there to share it with me :) Here's to the next adventure!

Brugge!

I went on  a daytrip to Brugge in Belgium today and everything was super cute! The architecture was really unique and quirky and it was amazing waching all the gorgeous horse and carriages trot around the city :) It was a fantastic day with lots of shopping and exploring the streets.

Sam and I caught the bus to meet up with some family in Southport yesterday which was great fun as I had not been in some time. Lots of old and new memories colliding.

Final hand in

Komorebi and Petrichor: DS15 UCLan
Today we had our last ever hand in at university! Feels very bittersweet, I'm excited to move onto my own new projects but will be sad to see this chapter close. University has been such an unforgettable experience; it's funny how little things seem to change until you look back over the three years as a whole. Finally after a long year, my final project is up and ready for our degree show: Exposé. The exhibition will be open to the public from June 13th - 20th in the Hanover Building, University of Central Lancashire, please feel free to come and see all the amazing work on show! :)

My degree show work has developed from a series of foreign words that cannot be translated directly into English, inspired originally by Ella Frances Sanders' Lost in Translation series.  I have been inspired by two words in particular:

Petrichor: the smell of the earth after rainfall and;
Komorebi: sunlight filtering through the leaves of the trees.

The work creates a narrative exploring the relationship between the two words and my own response to the experiences in relation to the words.  The words are a starting point, rather than a necessity in the outcome. The definition is provided to enable the words to be reintroduced but text is removed from the narrative to allow the viewer to formulate their own associations and personal experiences in response to the words. The final show will display a collection of artist zines in combination with physical wall collages.

Space allocation & Installation

Before

Our spaces were allocated last Monday! It was very exciting but nerve wracking to find out what sort of space I would be getting to display my work in. Very happy with it though, having asked for either a long wall or a corner I was pleasantly surprised to receive a  shallow booth with both! Next step on the degree show preparation was a long week of printing, shelf painting and experimenting with different ways to display my work. Everything is still displayed using tape in case I change my mind again just before the deadline haha!

Painting the studios!

 The past few days have been very busy excitedly preparing the studios for installation week! We had some fun painting the studio walls and floors, managed to find some time to take some quick snaps in between all the hard work! ;)

Zines!

I went to collect my printed zines from the printers today and I'm so happy with how beautifully they've turned out! The printers did an amazing job (I highly recommend T Snape in Preston!), and I can't wait to exhibit them at my degree show in June! (DS15: UCLan, Hanover Studios, Preston, June 13th- June 20th, 10am -5pm exc. Sunday 14th June).
