Today we drove to French Medieval City 'Carcassonne'; As soon as I walked into this city I immediately fell in love with it! I can see why it's a firm favourite of Sam's and his family! It was incredible! At first impressions it was impressive as we crossed the drawbridge; admiring the beautiful castle architecture with its turrets, but the quaint medieval village it contained was completely unexpected! I absolutely loved strolling through the winding little streets filled with shops very much aimed at tourists, but with a quirky medieval themed twist. Naturally, Sam was immediately drawn to the abundance of flintlock pistols and swords, although I have to admit they were beautifully designed and wouldn't have minded starting a collection had airport security not been an issue! We must have spent a good couple of hours just wandering the streets, before stopping for a quick bite to eat in one of the little cafes.
I still can't get over all the little quirks of France, such as the shutters on the windows, I think they look so lovely against the crumbling walls! I love how colourful it is here too with all the wild and garden flowers! I thought this gutter was particularly amusing too!
Right in the centre of the city was a beautifully intricate church, these stained glasses are so beautiful! Sam came in with me briefly, where there were a group of people chanting, it was incredibly powerful and atmospheric!
After we'd fully exhausted meandering around Carcassonne we decided to return home and relax for the remainder of the afternoon enjoying the sunshine~ Sam, Jake and I went on our usual walk down to the horses as it was a stunning sunset~ It was amazing how despite having repeatedly gone on this walk something new caught my eye each and every time~ I noticed the most gorgeously delicate cobwebs in the sunlight this evening which I've tried to capture below!
We've definitely succeeded in befriending the two horses! It makes me laugh because every time we go visit them they prance over like in the slow mo scenes in all the reunion clips! I've tried to depict this in the three shots below, they made a beeline straight for us!
