Day 8- Enserune- A fortified village and Beziers

We had an early start today as we went to a pre-roman fortified village called Ensérune. Coincidentally we also found the purpose of a star patterned fields we'd found on google maps previously when we were looking at the accommodation site! It turns out it's a natural drainage system~ the funny thing is we'd tried to find it again the other night on google maps but we couldn't! It was a baking hot walk up to the top however the views were worth it! We also found a museum which was free to European citizens under 25 years old, enabling you to access the museum and fortified village~ the walk around as Jake and Sam insisted was ' a lot of rocks' but I thought it was very pretty; we befriended a donkey and there were a lot of beautiful butterflies attracted to the wild flowers~
The museum was interesting too filled with jewellery and ceramics etc they'd found and put back together :) There were some really interesting looking 'swords', it's amazing, both, how far everything's come since then and how similar it is too.

'Whack-a-mole' as named by Sam and Jake :P

"May your life be like a wildflower; growing freely in the beauty and joy of each day"- These fields of wildflowers are so beautiful in France. It's amazing how much they immediately brighten up your day!

After we'd finished roaming around the village we made our way to the nearest town, Beziers for some a bite to eat~ It was amazing how different the architecture in the big towns was in comparison to the cute little ones we'd wandered around. It was very impressive, I thought the theatre below on the left was stunning; the colour and intricacy of the doors were beautiful! We weren't planning on staying for long so we just dropped into a local supermarket to pick up a couple of sandwiches and drinks, before heading back to the carpark where we promptly got stuck. The indoor car park there reminded me of those you see in all the films, in high tension and you know something bad's about to happen haha, and we got stuck in one as the machine wouldn't accept our ticket to get out. The car park itself was easy to get lost in, luckily we were able to get hold of an attendant who, probably due to the language barrier, let us go free of charge.

On the way home we drove through a very cute little town on the Canal Du Midi that we'd not been through before~ we even saw an otter, although unfortunately I didn't manage to get a photo quick enough! These flowers in our garden caught my eye this evening as they remind me of popcorn! They were very pretty once they'd flowered though~

We went for a walk around the local area again, where we made our way up to Slendy's hill, where there was a beautiful view of the sunset~ I love the contrasting colours of the warm sunlight and rich hues of colour below just peaking out from the bold silhouettes of the trees!
